Breakfast /Brunch

Restaurants in Budapest

The best brunches aren’t just about the food—they’re about atmosphere. Soft natural light, the gentle murmur of conversation, a sense of unhurried pleasure. It’s a meal that forgives your late arrival, that welcomes you in pajamas or Sunday best. There are some exceptional brunch places in Budapest.

Brunch—that magical interlude between breakfast and lunch where culinary boundaries blur and social conventions melt like hollandaise sauce. It’s more than just a meal; it’s a cultural ritual that speaks to our collective desire to leisurely indulge without the constraints of traditional dining schedules. The best breakfast and brunch places in Budapest offer you exactly that.

Lion’s Locker

Lion’s Locker is a great brunch place in Budapest. Its unique feature is the storage lockers, which are very convenient for people leaving the city in the afternoon or evening. The kitchen closes at 15:00. It offers excellent food and coffee. Service is even better: very friendly and helpful.

“Nice and cozy family café with friendly and happy staff. Great place to start the day with breakfast – especially Hungarian breakfast.”  (Tripadvisor)

I would give even 6 stars if possible. Food, service, atmosphere and overall vibe are extraordinary in this place. But you’re going there for food – and breakfast is delicious there, made with taste and passion.(Google)

Deszka Budapest

Dishes in Deszka are thoughtfully crafted and beautifully presented. The combinations of flavors may surprise you, but the food is delicious, the coffee too. Service is quick and very friendly. The venue is quite small, no booking.

“By far the best food we have ever had. I will fly back to Budapest just to have the gingerbread latte again ! 10/10. Staff were lovely and accommodated us very well!” (Tripadvisor)

Great looking and tasting dishes, especially loved the crispy bacon and sauces, as they added something extra special to the various toasts and vegetables. The vibes felt great, lots of plants, cushions and energetic staff.(Google)

Grumpy

Grumpy simply feels like home—there is no better way to describe it. The owner, Sziszi, turns fresh ingredients into fabulous dishes and makes every guest feel special. The menu is rich, coffee and cocktails are tasty, and the atmosphere is cozy as can be.

“This is truly a 5-star restaurant when it comes to food. The chef is clearly talented—she masterfully transforms traditional dishes into something modern and elegant, without losing their soul. Every plate felt thoughtful, refined, and full of flavor.”  (Tripadvisor)

Delicious breakfast! We did the fried eggs with Black Forest ham and roasted mushrooms – highly recommend. Best pistachio croissant I’ve ever had. Wonderful and kind service 🙂(Google)

Fruska Bistro – Nádor utca

There is Fruska Bistro on the Buda side as well, but this one is one of the best brunch places in Budapest. Very tasty, varied dishes, drinks as well. The beautiful interior with friendly, amazing staff makes the place very cozy. No outdoor seating.

“The atmosphere is perfect, very aesthetic but still comfortable, super great staff. We ordered the burger and the piri piri shrimp, and both were perfect! We then got the apple pie, which was also amazing.”  (Tripadvisor)

Such a cozy atmosphere, and nice place to have a coffee, brunch or a drink. We had the Fruska breakfast and loved it. It is just a walking distance to the Parliament. Budapest keeps amazing us.(Google)

Vinyl and Wood, located in the heart of the Jewish Quarter, is just cool: friendly, cozy, inviting… Food and coffee are outstanding, service too. It is also a small shop, you can buy some nice accessories. No bookings, kitchen closes at 15:00.

“Coffee, food and service – each better than the previous. We would recommend this place and will definitely come back when next time in Budapest. :)”  (Tripadvisor)

Really nice spot for breakfast in Budapest. Eggs were perfectly cooked, and the hot chocolate was rich without being overly sweet. Service was friendly and efficient, and the place had a relaxed, comfortable vibe. Would definitely recommend!(Google)

Blueberry Brunch

Blueberries are a signature item in Blueberry Brunch, but all the food is delicious. There are many options, none of which will disappoint. Great location, very friendly service, big portions. No booking, so usually you have to wait a bit to be seated. It’s well worth it.

“Absolut gem. Super friendly service and amazing food 👏. Went there several times throughout our trip and quality and service were consistent.”  (Tripadvisor)

I had a lovely experience at Blueberry Brunch! The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, even though the place was very busy on a Saturday of course. The food was delicious with lots of great options to choose from.(Google)

STIKA Budapest

Stika ticks all the boxes when it comes to a great breakfast/brunch. Food is delicious, drinks too. Add to that friendly service, beautiful interior, cozy patioo, great location: what more can you ask for?

“Aaaamazing food, stuff and place. There are a lot of options for breakfast, it’s hard to decide because everything is phenomenal. Portions are large, we ended up with leftovers for takeaway.”  (Tripadvisor)

This was the best breakfast I ever had. It is definitely on the pricier side, but worth every penny tenfold! I can especially recommend the Fried Honey Brioche as a dessert, and the coconut matching (you have to stir it!!) to go alongside it.(Google)
