FEATURE OF THE WEEK

Hungary’s National Restaurant Week

Hungary’s beloved National Restaurant Week is making its grand return from October 2-19. This marks the 28th edition of what’s become the country’s most anticipated culinary event – and they’ve extended it to a whopping 18 days. More time for delicious discoveries? Yes, please!

National Restaurant Week isn’t just another food promotion. It’s become this wonderful tradition where restaurants across Hungary roll out their red carpets (and their best dishes) for everyone to enjoy. We’re talking about places that might normally be out of reach, suddenly offering special menus that won’t break the bank. You get to eat like a food critic for a fraction of the usual cost.

Here’s where it gets really interesting. Participating restaurants craft special 3-course menus at standardized prices that are still incredibly reasonable: 6,900, 8,900, and 10,900 forints (including service charge!). For context, a regular dinner at many of these restaurants would normally cost you twice that amount – or more. These aren’t stripped-down “budget” versions either. Restaurants often include:

– Chef’s experimental dishes that might become permanent fixtures if people love them enough
– Seasonal ingredients showcased in creative ways
– Local wine pairings available as add-ons (because this is Hungary, after all!).

Sure, Budapest gets all the attention with its fancy restaurants and Instagram-worthy presentations. But some of the most memorable meals happen in smaller Hungarian towns during Restaurant Week.

Now, here’s the important bit – you can’t just show up and hope for the best. All reservations must be made through www.etteremhet.hu. Popular spots get booked solid within days, so don’t procrastinate.

Technology

In 2025, restaurant technology trends are centered on using artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), automation, and augmented reality to revolutionize customer experience and kitchen operations. AI-powered POS systems and smart AI platforms personalize dining by predicting customer preferences, while IoT devices enable smart refrigeration, automated inventory tracking, and energy management. Augmented reality offers immersive dining experiences by letting customers preview dishes and explore menu details virtually.

Best restaurants around  Parliament?

We recommend Hungarikum Bisztro for Hungarian food,  Majorelle or Mazi Greek Kitchen for Mediterranean food. Egy csipet torta is a great cake shop.

World’s Most Beautiful Bookshop Café is in Istanbul

Meet Minoa Pera, the Istanbul bookshop café that just earned the title of “World’s Most Beautiful Bookshop Café” from 1000 Libraries, a magazine and online platform dedicated to spotlighting the world’s most beautiful spots for literature lovers. After more than 200,000 readers and experts cast their votes, this multi-story literary paradise emerged as the clear winner.

What makes it special? Picture 45,000 books in Turkish and English, plants dangling from ceilings and climbing stairwells, gorgeous hanging lanterns, and a second-floor café perfect for settling in with your latest read. The sleek stone floors and modern design feel cozy without being claustrophobic, while books adorning the curved staircase add to that magical atmosphere.

It’s that perfect sweet spot where serious book culture meets seriously good coffee culture – basically your most bookish friend’s impossibly cool apartment.
