Fehérvári úti Vásárcsarnok

The best, most authentic langos (Hungarian street food) in Budapest you’ll find in local market halls (except in the Great Market Hall). Why? Because that is where locals eat. Fresh, tasty, cheap: the real deal.

One of those market halls is Fehérvári úti Vásárcsarnok (piac). The small booth that serves langos there doesn’t appear on Google Maps; there are no reviews, no website or social media. Only honest, down-to-earth local fare. Langos and crepes are made to order because they are so busy. It doesn’t get any better. Opening hours might vary. Be there between 12 and 13, and you won’t miss it. On the top floor of the market (where the booth is), there are many other options. Self-service places with homemade food to make you feel like a local for a bit.

Lángos Land

Part of an outdoor market in the back of the Mammut shopping mall on the Buda side, Lángos Land offers a real local, authentic experience with great food and service. In the 2025 edition, the Hungarian Street Kitchen Guide chose it as the number one lángos place in Budapest.

Lángos centRum

Lángos centRum is located inside Lehel Market Hall. Always swarmed by locals, serves unpretentious, fresh, tasty langos. Despite being so busy, service is always friendly.

Jókrisz Lángossütő

Jókrisz Lángossütő is another indoor market place, inside Rákóczi Market Hall. Local, tasty, cheap, authentic, as it should be. They serve other food as well (breakfast, burgers, crepes).

Retro Lángos

Retro Lángos is the most famous langos place in Budapest. It definitely caters to tourists, but there are some advantages to smaller local places above. It is open in the evening and on weekends and has a huge menu to choose from. There is another, older location, but this one is a better choice.

Krumplis Lángos

Is it touristy? Yes. Is it tasty? Absolutely! Krumplis Lángos is quick, friendly, and serves delicious food. Nice outdoor seating for people-watching.

Basilico Pizzéria

When you think about street food, a delicious slice of pizza often comes to mind. Basilico Pizzéria is a hidden gem in Budapest’s Palace District, offering exactly that. Unpretentious, tasty pizzas,  friendly service, and unbeatable prices. A small place, but in the summer, when they put tables outside, very cozy.

Crudo Pizza

Crudo Pizza offers New York-style pizza. It’s a relative newcomer, but quickly gained a reputation for good quality and fast, friendly service. It’s a small place, so come in with an open mind, accepting the possibility of not being able to eat on site.

Burger Project Kalvin

The Burger Project has three locations; the one close to Kálvin ter is the most centrally located. The other two are in District 4 and District 13. They serve premium burgers. Nice, comfortable interior and friendly service. You can pre-order with their own app.

Buddy’s Burger

Buddy’s Burger keeps it simple. American-style burgers, only two options: single or double. Fries with or without cheese and banana pudding. But everything is tasty, coupled with fast and friendly service. Prices are in the same lane. It’s a takeaway place, very few places on site.

Tosti Budapest

Dutch sandwich shop Tosti offers yummy toasted sandwiches, ideal for a quick bite. Most popular for breakfast, probably because coffee is as good, if not better. And the staff is one of the friendliest in Budapest.

Eggdrop Project

Based on a popular Korean street food, EGGDROP PROJECT serves delicious, fluffy toasted sandwiches, perfect for brunch. Together with fresh ingredients, cozy vibe, and friendly service, it makes the whole experience very pleasant. Definitely something different and worth trying.

Nokedlish Dob

Nokedli is a kind of egg pasta, usually served as a side dish with meat and sauce. It is the food that you find at home, prepared by grandma. Even locals are surprised to find it at Nokedlish. Authentic flavors, generous portions, very friendly, accommodating staff – all of this for an excellent price. Check out their other location.

Bors Gastro Bar

When you go to check out Szimpla Kert (the coolest ruin bar in Budapest), drop by Bors Gastro Bar. Fantastic soups, tasty baguetts, with a friendly service and great vibe. Street food in Budapest doesn’t get any better.

Located in the coolest courtyard, 1# BIRRIA Taco Bar has a simple, straightforward menu: tasty tacos and margaritas. Attracts a young crowd, the atmosphere is delightful. The best tacos in Budapest, with very friendly service.

Ashis’ Israeli Street Food

Ashis’ serves fresh and tasty kosher street food in a very friendly and laid-back setting. The atmosphere stands out, as do the opening hours. Reasonable prices compared to other kosher restaurants in the area.

If you are looking for something different, Chinese street food from Hi Bing will do the trick. Food is freshly made, authentic, and full of flavour. The service is very friendly – great value for money.

Hero Kebab

No list of street food places will be complete without kebabs (or shawarma, gyros – call it what you wish; the difference is mostly in sauces). There are many in Budapest. Hero Kebab serves very good ones, fresh, tasty, generous portions. The staff is very friendly.
